Caught in a downpour walking home. Nowhere to shelter except under a tiny lintel. The road became a river. The rain got heavier. Finallly made it home soaking wet to find the water pouring into the flat through the telephone socket. Woke up the next morning with Peru belly. Just queazy enough to be uncomfortable all day. More things about Peru. Its hard to find a cold beverage. Lots of shops have the refrigerators - like the ones supplied by Coca Cola and they put the drinks in them but they don't plug them in. They seem to prefer drinks at room temp.

The mornings are clear and sunny. The afternoons cool and cloudy. Still making adjustments to being in Latin America. It is a noisy place. Car alarms, horns, traffic, dogs barking, street sellers. Trying to cross the road and remembering that the car is king. The traffic is ruthless. There is no quarter given and none expected. Intersections are like an 'ultimate fighting' bout. There is a major intersection near here where traffic lights were installed but it caused major hold ups. so they turned them off and went back to the law of the asphalt jungle. Seems to work much better. More things about being here. Drinking UHT milk. The lousy bread, the only exception is the ciabatta buns which are awesome when fresh.

Big boom. Went into the bathroom to find a pipe hanging down and water gushing out. Ran madly around the house looking for the tap to turn off the water supply, while yelling out my neighbours name because he is the caretaker of the guesthouse. Found the tap just as the water reached the edge of the bathroom. There is a drain in the bathroom but off course it doesn't work. I suppose it is there for aesthetic purposes. Well my neighbours Markus and Monika came in and fixed up the mess. More stuff about Peru. A million taxi companies. Not all of them reputable. Camote (that's sweet potato) chips (crisps) - awesome. Dogs on the roof. Nightmare traffic.
